Korean-born Heejung Yang is a versatile violist now residing in New
York City. She is currently active as the Principal violist of Symphoria,
the Orchestra of Central New York, and the Principal violist of the
Amadeo Philharmonic Society. Heejung has regularly worked features
as guest-principal violist for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (New
Jersey) and as a viola fellow for the APEX ensemble. Heejung is also
passionate about chamber music. Her string quartet took first place in
the 2022 Ruth Widder String Quartet Competition, her group now has
been pursuing a professional string quartet. She was also featured on
Radio Broadcast as the violist of Yosemite String Quartet on Classical
WMHT-FM during her fellowship in the Tanglewood Music Festival.
Heejung Yang first came to New York to receive her Master’s Degree in
Patinka Kopec’s studio and her Professional Studies in Orchestra
Performance at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of
Karen Dreyfus and Shmuel Katz. She is now pursuing her Artist
Diploma in Classical Viola at Montclair State University in New Jersey.
