Start your Christmas by Candlelight night early, and meet the musicians
A 5:30 party with hot cocoa, holiday bites, and three orchestra musicians, plus premium seats for the 7:00 concert.
It’s 5:30. There’s a hot cocoa in your hand, your person is next to you, and someone just gave you a passport.
Then the speed dating starts. Musical speed dating, that is.
Three of the orchestra’s musicians are waiting with their instruments: Michael Halbrook with his viola, Jessica King with her bassoon and contrabassoon, and Ben Dettelback with his trombone. You get a few minutes with each one. Ask the thing you’ve always wondered. See how it’s played up close. Get your passport stamped, and move on to the next.
Fill all three stamps and you’re entered to win two concert tickets. Your date may turn out to be more competitive than you knew.
Then, at 7, the concert starts. Three of the people on stage are people you met an hour ago. You know their names. You know what a contrabassoon is. You’ll find yourself listening for them.
Walk straight to your premium seats. Your cocoa and your plate come with you.
That’s what the extra hour gets you: a whole night instead of just a concert. Everything’s planned. All you do is show up with your person.
It’s an easy yes for a date who’s hard to plan for. It also makes a good Christmas gift for the friend who has everything, or for the parents who say they don’t want anything this year.
