MEET THE ORCHESTRA
EDWIN LOK HIN CHENG | violin
Edwin Lok Hin Cheng, a violinist hailing from Hong Kong, is a multifaceted artist known for his work in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings, now proudly serving with the Syracuse Orchestra beginning in 2025. Recently nominated for a Grammy Award for his contribution as a recording musician on Aaron Lazar’s album, Impossible Dream, Edwin enjoys his active participation in diverse genres of music, which brought him on United States national tour with the Grammy-winning Christian band Casting Crowns, and to the stage of Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea, featured as a part of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble.
Prior to his appointment with The Syracuse Orchestra, Edwin has held positions with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Wichita Symphony, Tulsa Symphony, and Fort Smith Symphony. He has also performed regularly with the Dallas Opera, Lawton Philharmonic, and Vergilius Chamber Orchestra. Orchestral festivals in which he has participated include the Aspen Music Festival and Brevard Music Center.
Edwin completed his undergraduate studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong before moving to the United States, earned his M.M. from the University of Houston Moores School of Music, and is now finishing his D.M.A. at the University of Oklahoma. His primary teachers include Kirsten Yon, Min-Jeong Koh, Gregory Lee and Alexander Kerr.
