MEET THE ORCHESTRA
JON GARLAND | horn
Jon Garland is a member of the Symphoria Horn section as well as member of the board of trustees. He was assistant principal horn of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) since 1997.
Jon attended the Julliard School, the Mannes College of Music, and the Aspen Music Festival, where he was a fellowship recipient. His major teachers included Philip Myers, Ranier DeIntinis, John Cerminaro, and Larry Johnson.
In addition to his duties in Syracuse, Jon has performed with the Honolulu Symphony, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, the Harrisburg and Seattle Symphony Orchestras. He joined the faculty of the Syracuse University Setnor School of Music in 2002. In addition to performing, he serves on the faculty of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University and Hamilton College.
When Jon is not playing in the orchestra or teaching, he spends most of his time working at the Symphoria office doing administrative duties. He enjoys kayaking, cooking and gardening.
