MEET THE ORCHESTRA

Violinist Linda Carmona began her musical studies in the Omaha, Nebraska public schools at age eight. After early acceptance following her junior year of high school, she earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Drake University, studying with Dr. Wilfred Biel, a former student of Ivan Galamian. She went on to earn a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University, studying with Shirley Givens, and performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under David Zinman while there.

Linda’s training included international festivals such as the Internationales Orchester-Institut Attergau in Austria, held under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic. While freelancing in Chicago, she was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, performing under conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Sir Georg Solti.

Linda met her future husband while performing one summer with the Des Moines Metro Opera — and his Army career would go on to shape her own musical path across the country. The couple’s first move took Linda to Savannah, Georgia, where she performed regularly with the Savannah Symphony and served as the orchestra’s Music Librarian. Their next stop was the Atlanta metro area, where she spent eight years performing with the Atlanta Opera, held positions with several regional orchestras, and served as a regular substitute with the Alabama Symphony and the Atlanta Ballet.

Following a move to northern New York, Linda became a tenured member of Symphoria, and a later relocation to Texas brought performances with the Waco Symphony and the Las Cruces Symphony. In 2019, Linda returned to Syracuse, where she is once again a tenured member of The Syracuse Orchestra.
