MEET THE ORCHESTRA
MARSHALL HENRY | bass
Symphoria bassist Marshall Henry is a Central New York native and now divides his time between Syracuse and New York City. Marshall holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Syracuse University, a Master of Music degree from SUNY Purchase College, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University. His teachers include Kurt Muroki, Timothy Cobb, Edward Castilano and Darryl Pugh. Growing up he attended Chittenango Central Schools and participated in the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Marshall’s multifaceted musical career has provided him the opportunity to perform and record in a wide range of settings and genres of music. Recent engagements include performances at: Carnegie Hall, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Glastonbury Festival, Google I/O, Barclays Center, Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, and MIMO Festival Brazil. Marshall frequently performs with the Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Toure and has had the opportunity to tour on five continents with Vieux. Marshall is very appreciative of the community’s support of Symphoria and cherishes his role helping to enrich the region through music.
