The Syracuse Orchestra Wind section is featured in this concert. Written just seven years apart from each other, the two works on this program reflect a time period when these composers focused on clarity and balance, while continuing to incorporate national character into their work. Charles Gounod’s Petite Symphonie brings French elegance and refinement to the wind ensemble. Similarly, Antonin Dvorak’s Serenade in D Minor embraces serenade traditions while infusing them with the rhythmic vitality and inflections of Bohemian folk music.
